Stories of Change

Clear Vision, Better Business

Every day, Rosemary Muriithi depends on her banana business to support herself and her family. However, as her vision deteriorated, running the business became increasingly difficult. Identifying currency notes, recording transactions, and interacting with customers required more effort and often caused frustration.

When she was identified during a household outreach activity, Rosemary shared the challenges she was facing due to her declining vision. Following an assessment, she was provided with a pair of spectacles in 2022. What seemed like a simple intervention quickly transformed her daily life. With clearer vision, Rosemary was able to handle transactions more accurately, serve customers with greater confidence, and manage her business more effectively. Tasks that had become difficult were once again manageable, allowing her to focus on growing her livelihood rather than struggling with poor eyesight.

Years later, she continues to use the spectacles consistently and credits them with improving both her productivity and quality of life. Rosemary’s story demonstrates that access to eye care is not only a health intervention, it is also an economic empowerment tool. By restoring vision, the project helped restore her confidence, independence, and ability to earn a living. For Rosemary, clearer sight has meant more than seeing better; it has meant working better, living better, and looking ahead with optimism.
